Customizing
Learn what you need and know what to take. It is always better to have it and not need it, than not have it, and need it... Be Prepared...
SH-GO-BAG includes basic survival resources for one individual for 72 hours. It is strongly recommended that each bag be supplemented with additional items such as additional: Water, food, medicines, sanitation, hygiene, and other. SH-GO-BAG will only provide the minimal requirements for 1 individual for 72 hrs. therefore additional provisions should be added on an individual as need basis. It should be remembered that during a disaster scenario, all basic conveniences such as electricity may not be available for food preparation. SH provides additional resources via video, blogs, and written instructions to increase your survival preparedness.
Shelter
Number 1 in The Survival Rules of 3. The items included in SH-GO-BAG for shelter, while adequate, are considered minimal and additional shelter considerations may be contemplated. Tents, tarps, ponchos, and other will extend the capabilities of your SH-GO-BAG. Should you desire to fortify your SH-GO-BAG with any of those suggested it is equally advised that additional waterproofing be applied to seams to completely water proof the item. Clothing and personal protection are additional considerations for shelter. Hand held, crush activated heaters, can provide several hours of localized body heat sources for colder environments. Conversely a simple sun shade can provide a difference of up to 10-20 degrees from a sweltering sun.
Water
Number 2 in The Survival Rules of 3. SH-GO-BAG only provides a minimal amount of the suggested 1 gallon of water per person per day required. Therefore additional quantities of water are required since in a disaster scenario, without electricity, there may be no running water due to the lack of electricity to operate and maintain the pumps for pressure. Expiration dates should be regularly monitored for expiration. Consideration should be given to portable water filtration filters available in many forms such as straw, bag, and pump.
Food
Number 3 in The Survival Rules of 3. It is recommended that additional food resources be added to your SH-GO-BAG. Meals Ready To Eat, MRE's, are prepackaged military style complete meal packages that can be eaten hot or cold, and they include accessories such as napkin, salt, pepper, and other items to provide a one package complete meal provision. In many instances the MRE's can provide 100% daily US RDA and caloric intake requirements in on hot or cold serving package. Most sporting goods retailers offer prepackaged backpacking meals that require water to be added to complete the meal preparation. Grocery stores offer precooked tuna, chicken, and other type lightweight hot/cold meal packages that can be added to your bag. It is imperative to pay attention to expiration date and rotate you SH-GO-BAG stock as required.
Personal Effects
The stress a disaster scenario imposes is incredible. Whether you decide to relocate, stay in place, or seek temporary emergency shelter, your mental preparedness will be key to your physical and mental survival. As such simple items such as games, playing cards, stories, song, and other forms of entertainment will provide the necessary peace of mind to relieve stress. You will need to secure and protect the items that are available to you from the elements. Do not rely on electricity to provide you comfort since electricity is most often the first amenity lost in a disaster scenario and be well aware that batteries are a source of energy that declines with each use. You are the best resource to customize your individual needs. You alone know your requirements such as additional family members, ages, medical, climate and other considerations.
NOW is they time to prepare and it is not the intent of Survival House to create panic or doomsday scenarios. Disasters have happened before. THEY WILL HAPPEN AGAIN!
